Return of Dark Skies by Thomas-Koidhis Return of Dark Skies by Thomas-Koidhis
Found my way to the granite of the Slave to celebrate the transition back to dark skies. Not fully celebrating the temperature drop, of course =P

Might post a few more from this night. I managed to get some HD video of the auroral effects of the most recent solar material ejection, but the video disappeared. I would describe the peak activity of this solar storm as frightening.

I've been awed viewing aurora for a long time as many have, but I've never been...afraid until this night. There was activity overhead that was so intense and bright and so fast that I wondered for a moment whether the particle streams were about to tear the sky to pieces. I think that's very unlikely, but the power of what was happening above me coaxed out some primal fear...Just when you think you've seen it all.

Your photography is stunning:heart: It has always been a dream of mine to photograph the aurora borealis. Please tell me where this was taken, what time of the year & what lens you used.

This was taken on the Slave River, in August, on a Tokina 11-16 2.8. Thanks so much!
