My Paradise

Description

Went for a walk up Little Buffalo River with my girlfriend near the falls which is literally right on the border of Wood Buffalo National Park. Such a beautiful place. Lots of mosquitoes as usual!

Second exposure used to get the detail better in the plants.

edit: removed halo from blending, more natural look. :)

I was immediately drawn to this image. Upon viewing the thumbnail it seemed to be a huge grand vista and I was actually a little surprised to see the smaller scale when I loaded up the larger image. It was actually a nice surprise as it served to draw me in from afar to a much more intimate scene.

The composition is good overall, giving the ground the precedence it deserves over the sky. Plenty of good leading lines in this shot, and they all lead right to the waterfall, which is both good and bad. Its good because I feel this is exactly what should be happening, however, I would have preferred a more off center compositon. There is also a lot of detail in this shot, which I liked, but given the size of the waterfall which appears to be the main subject, the extra detail is slightly distracting.

The colors and contrast of the shot are great, especially the reflection of the hillside in the lower left corner. The tree line gets a bit dark in places and the hillside on the left appears as if some of the highlights might be blown. There also appears to be a glow in the sky above the trees, probably resulting from the blending of the exposures, which could be fixed up a bit.

One other technical issue I see is that some of the trees that jut up into the sky appear to exhibit some CA or more likely ghosting from the blending process. Not major, but noticeable to me.

Overall, it is still a quite pleasing image, with an interesting subject and nice colors.
