Hey man, not all my pictures are goth :P

The Slave River looks "dirty" because of sediments and microbial life. It provides nutrients for the bio-diverse life that surrounds and lives inside it. Unfortunately, it is basically the "drainage" system for all of the waterways in Canada.

I wonder...would I even be able to have my camera and equipment, were it not for petrol production? Technically, no...The polymers used in the making of my camera parts came from petrol products. So how can I speak out against the destruction these types of production wreak on the ecosystems of earth?

Are there other ways, better ways to manage ourselves and our technology so that we can still have quality imaging systems, transportation, music, art etc etc..Everything that drives our imaginations and desires, and everything that we enjoy...And not ruin it for other life and future generations? A king, centuries ago, fanning himself to keep cool in the summer heat of his kingdom would see the average person turn on an A/C unit and surely declare today a utopia.

I sure hope so. It would be sad to see something as momentous as our civilization to go to waste in such a way.

Good to even wrassle with those thoughts as most people don't even ponder it at all.

We do live better than most all humans who've ever existed. And it's good to be appreciative of that.

I also think that it's easier to be destructive than constructive and that more often than not we travel in a bit of a two steps forward one step back, or three steps forward two steps back, sort of manner.

While our criminal system has flaws and is not perfect, still needs reform, it is much better than many things that came before. I'm glad women are allowed to vote and you don't need to be a landowner to have representation. And as much as some people decry that people are innocent until proven guilty it too is better than anyone/everyone being able to be put away without proof or trial.

So what does all this thought bring us to? We are where and when we are. And it is a wonderful thing that we can spend some time alongside a river at dusk and ponder these things and reflect upon the beauty we see around us.

Two forward, one back, continue...

All very true. It's a difficult thing to see what needs change, and still appreciate what we have. Having foresight and hindsight and still living this moment takes a finesse that could take a lifetime to learn. And yes, it's very wonderful..and when I'm out there, it feels like everything is moving along just as it 'should.'
